MY STORY
"PEOPLE EAT WITH THEIR EYES"


I had an avertising design prof at Utah State University say "people eat with their eyes...so make you works have flavor for wide variety of palates."  I thought about what he had said, although I didn't question him – palate or palette ??

Although professionally I'm an advertising designer for the hotel industry, I've been drawing and painting since the 4th grade. My fine arts skills and craftsmanship has slowly developed through training and work experience over time – I never lost interest or love for fine art, I just got distracted a little to make a living.

I've worked for the past 35 years running a small ad agency Hotel Marketing Group - focusing on hotels, restaurants and golf courses creating marketing tools, websites and graphic arts from my offices in San Diego, California.  I attended Utah State University for a couple of years and following 4 years in the Navy, I final graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in marketing communications, graphics and B of fine arts.


Over the past four decades, I've achieved professional experience in marketing, public relations and advertising in the hospitality industry, starting my career with Crest Advertising and division of then Atlas Hotels, Inc in San Diego.

I spent a great 17 years with Atlas Hotels as Director of Advertising, learning and developing an expertise in promoting a variety of market segments including, convention, trade show, leisure packaging and individual corporate travel, tour group, theme restaurants and health facilities. Those were good years and I got a chance to paint a lot in oils during that period of time. In 1986 I founded Davis Design & Communications, specializing in the hotel industry, I was fortunate enough to have worked with hundreds of hotel properties both domestically and internationally in a marketing and advertising management capacity creating thousands of ads, collateral pieces and marketing tools. Over the past 35 years my business landscape has morphed from Davis Design & Communications through mergers and expansions into Davis McDowell, Inc. in 1994 and then again in 2000 to (dba) Hotel Marketing Group. 


Hopefully, as I grow older and wiser, I'll be able to focus more on Fine Arts....and which pallette that prof really meant...??
